Microsoft has distributed a new patch for its Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems, which has generated a problem that prevents its own virtual private network (VPN) tool from connecting, extending the failure to third-party networks. The patch released by Microsoft this Tuesday (the January update) was intended to fix some security vulnerabilities. It included cumulative updates KB5009543 for Windows 10 and KB5009566 for Windows 11. However, its installation has triggered problems in the use of a VPN, as some of the affected users have reported on social networks such as Twitter, in Microsoft’s own publication about the update. Microsoft has confirmed that it is aware of the bug, and on the page of said update for Windows 11 or has identified in the Vendor ID that they contain some connections, but also with the L2TP protocol and with IPSEC IKE. He is currently investigating the issue, and says he will fix it in a future update. Users have indicated that the Microsoft VPN client fails, but also other third-party services such as SonicWall, Cisco Meraki, and WatchGuard Firewalls.
